In this exciting new workshop you will be using hand carved wooden Indian printing blocks to print with colours made from plant dyes. You will combine yellows from turmeric and weld with reds from the cochineal beetle and a natural red Cumbrian pigment. This red iron oxide pigment has been hand mined from the haematite of the Florence mine in Egremont, Cumbria. Blues will be from the woad plant and onion skins and fustic will give beautiful shades of browns.
You will combine all the plant dyes with a textile medium to first create a paste. This will then be sponged onto the wooden printing blocks and then a print created onto white cotton fabric. The workshop is suitable for all levels. All the plant dyes and textile mediums are included in the price of this workshop.
The workshop takes place from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
